Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

Leaving Canada

It did rain all night but when we got up early this morning the slushy snow was still around.   More was predicted for tomorrow so we left.  There was 4 inches of untouched snow on the dock in Montague and we’re glad we had a shovel to clear our parking space.  Who knew that Galiano Island has a snow plow?  the hilly road was just a bit slushy.   When we got on the 13 % full ferry we had a talk with a couple of employees.. Several couldn’t make it to the ferry on Saltspring due to snow n the roads  one went in the ditch, so they had to enlist an extra…( if the ferry doesn’t have the right number of employees it can’t sail).  so we were glad of that, and thanked him!   Of course I wanted to see those Eagles (see last sunday's blip of them— iPhone photo of the surprise hundreds of Eagles we saw on the way to the ferry--might be better focus ) and researched exactly where the compost facility was and how to get there, but once we saw the slush on the highway in BC, H was NOT inclined to go looking for a small street, “just to see some birds”!!  :-)    (and actually we saw that street later. from the freeway. no cars had been there..all snow)   so all this means that I had to take my photos from a fast moving car in about 45 seconds.   How to set it up?  Got the exposure and time OK.. but not so much the focus…  so this is 7 on the compost heap.   The extra shows lots of birds flying (yes, there are gulls there too, but most of these are eagles).   sorry for the bad photos, —it was still a very cool sight to see!   and I liked all the snow ones with dark cloudy skies.     The border let us in… for better or worse… we are very proud to live in the state of WA —our judge was the first to oppose the illegal  immigration ban which is now being revised —and it will go to the supreme court.    So I’ve added the border to the extras… and you can see there is still some slush on this very well traveled highway in BC.… the snow quit around Bellingham and then just rain.   (We’re from Chicago and can’t believe how big a deal it is to drive in snow out here)
Got home too late to make it to Nik’s middle school basketball game too far away but got to the 2nd half of his parks department game nearby … only he didn’t make it on time.   !  so no basketball photos today….

Now I need to vege out on the couch, after dinner from the freezer… Happy to be here!
