Strange Structure

Headed over to Newhaven on Phillip Island this morning. After a shaky start - impenetrable greyness overhead with rain - by mid morning the sun was shining and the sky was blue. Had a nice walk along the Newhaven shoreline seeking blips. This structure has intrigued me for a long while. I had often seen it while travelling across the Phillip Island Bridge (in background) and being a seafaring man in a past life, wondered what the heck it was. Couldn't figure it out. I headed out onto the pier and got some shots of it. I discovered later that this is the second stage of an experiment into producing electricity via tidal energy. There are, apparently, large turbines below the water that use the incoming and outgoing tides for generating energy. Perfect place obviously, as the tidal race is very strong in this location. 2 incoming and 2 outgoing tides per day. It will be interesting to see where it goes in the future.
With regard to the photograph above I am still experimenting with the Snapseed app. Beautiful weather and what happens, I turn the photo grey, well, more or less. Still, I have always considered that experimentation is the engine of creativity. So I messed this picture up, then started again, and finally achieved a result that I think is acceptable. A bit of selective blur, a bit of grunge, a bit of drama, and a bit of vintage. Not necessarily in that order. Its fun though.
In the background behind the bridge there was a school trip that was depositing students for the midday Pelican feeding, which occurs, from this orientation, behind the jetty. Got home and Kaye and I took our little mini Jack Russell down to the vet in Inverloch to get her nails clipped. She is such a psycho dog with regard to her nails, she is getting used to the car though. On the way home, we stopped at the beach and had a walk, got some nice photos but decided on the above anyway. A splendid day :))
