Reflection on old Orkney

This picture - dating I think from the First World War - hangs in the members lounge just outside the Council Chamber in the Council Buildings in Kirkwall. It is one of a number of good historic photographs on the walls .

I was particularly taken by the effect the reflections of the windows produced when I tried to capture it - they would normally detract but the blue light from the the overcast day , and the touches of green from the trees , seemed to penetrate the older image bringing the present into the past.

The Scottish Cabinet met in the Council Chamber this morning before the Cabinet public meeting . We had our reception in the town hall last night, which is the main building in this picture.

I am staying on for another 24 hours in order to visit the College , Kirkwall Grammar School and some other places.
