Getting the nectar

S and I went out west of the City to Oratia, where we had lunch with friends. After we had finished eating, a young tui (not yet in full adult plumage; none of the white neck feathers were to be seen) visited a tree with flowers from which it could gather nectar. I managed one or two good shots out of a dozen attempts.

I've added as an extra a photo taken from the deck shortly after we returned to the apartment having collected daughter J from the airport. Sh has just finished attending a conference of the Green Party, at which they were discussing their candidate list. A great welcome back to Auckland.
