Fleamarkets, Coffee, Concert ......

Saturday
We did not get up as early as planned (seeing a pattern here ...) and set off to our Berlin flea market tour only after midday.
We started at our local market at the Marheineke Platz. I managed to get another WMF serving plate for small money. I love their 1960 - 1970s plain designs, but the stuff is sought after and some traders want proper money for it. Even for things that are still  production and may cost new less than used - or VINTAGE! So its really bargain hunting, which is fun.
We dropped in the market hall to get some eggs and meat then dropped it at the flat.
Next stop was the Flea market at the Schöneberger Rathaus. This is a quite different market with also loads of junk. Thus a good place for bargains, if you feel like digging in old boxes with random household stuff. I was lucky and found this! I am long after that piece and paid 7 Euros together with a small measure for cocktails! Very happy with that!
We then walked to the next U-Bahn station to get to Treptow. There is an indoor market, where we got good stuff in the past. Our 1970-ies red swing chairs were from there.
It was already getting towards closing time and we did not find anything worth buying. We still need a small shelf for the bedroom, but nothing fitted size wise and appealed at the same time.
We walked along Schlesische Straße and realised that the iconic White Trash Fastfood seemed closed!
So we had to skip our obligatory refreshment stop and walked on.
Luckily we found a little coffee shop (19 grams) a bit further and stopped for some black medicine. It was a roaster from Friedrichshain and imagine, I left the shop with two bags for freshly roasted coffee beans :).
On the way home I insisted to stop at the "No gluten" cafe at Hasenheide, as I wanted to try their speciality bread, which consists of sprouted seeds (mainly buckwheat) which is dehydrated instead of baked, They only do one batch per week as it takes several days to make.
I got a small bag full of this hellish expensive stuff plus a kidney bean vegan brownie.
On the way home we grabbed some Döner meat for Neil, I still had Turkey eggs to eat.
After a quick dinner we got ready for the night!
Concert time!
Back to Friedrichshain, to the Astra Kulturhaus at the RAW.
We missed the support act - as usual but were well in time for Skunk Anansie!
The concert was fabulous! Great atmosphere and a band that thoroughly enjoyed playing. The singer is just amazing!
We had a great time dancing and cheering and were hot, sweaty and exhausted after the 2 hours.
We left the venue and wondered where to go next since we were finally out and already in Berlin's hip party zone.
We walked through the streets to cool down and bit and to make up our mind where to go next. We stopped in a bar for a drink and checked if it was worth going to the Nuke Club. But today's death metal theme did not appeal.
In the end we decided to head back and go for another drink in our home area. I fancied since a long time to visit a 1920's style Cocktail Bar around the corner of our flat. It is special and a bit pricey, but the occasion seemed right tonight.
At the U-Bahn Warschauer Strasse I dragged Neil into another photo booth for the "after picture" since we were too rushed for the "before" picture ;). It was after midnight and thus an image for Sunday ;) .... you will see tomorrow!
Back in our Kiez we checked out a few bars on the way but ended as intended in the "Limonadier". We were given 2 seats at the bar by a lovely waiter with white bowtie. The menu was amazing - everything special with home made sirups and liqueurs. No standard cocktails of course.
We got some advice from the bartender and I got a spiced rum based drink and Neil a Whisky based one called Bukowski's Lemon beer!
Both strong, served in vintage lead crystal glasses. Wonderful! We happily sipped our drinks and watched the bar tender doing his art. We had a great time. Once our glasses were finished we went for a second one. Smartly staying with rum and whisky base ...! Mine was called "Smooth Desert storm" served with a flambéed date. Neil had a drink called "Lady Sid" - containing whisky, coffee liqueur and absinth ... I cannot remember the rest of the ingredients. Definitely not quite a lady's drink. We enjoyed the treat and were glad that all cocktails were served with plenty of tab water to balance.
We stayed until closing time after 3 am and discussed if it was a gift or a curse just living around the corner!
We will definitely be back! What a great place and most amazing cocktail creations.
Neil had quite a bit of a hit from the last one. I blame the absinth and when we got home we destroyed the contents of our sweets and chocolate tin plus the brownie before falling happily into our bed around 5 am. It was a fantastic night to be remembered.

Th Blip was taken at the U-Bahnhof Schöneberger Rathaus and shows the view into the Volkspark Schöneberg (Rudolph Wilde Park). It was lovely light and I loved the colours.
