Lozarhythm of the Day:
The Gladiators - Pocket Money, U-Roy - Evil Doers, Prince Tony All Stars - Pocket Money Dub (1977)
The 12" discomix of the Gladiators' Pocket Money/Evil Doers is one of my favourite reggae tracks from that classic era. It was recorded at Harry J's studio and at the Joe Gibbs studio in Kingston, Jamaica, with Errol Thompson at the mix desk and features the singing and playing of the Gladiators augmented by the Revolutionaries (as the Tony Robinson All Stars) including Sly Dunbar and Sticky Thompson. The 'riddim' was used by U-Roy on his toast, Evil Doers, and all three versions included here were produced by Prince Tony Robinson for the TR Groovemaster label (released here by Virgin).
