Posting a letter in Peter Rabbit's post box

A National Trust and Beatrix Potter day. First to Hawkeshead to look at the excellent NT Beatrix Potter museum. Although we'll know for her children's books she was also a respected farmer, champion of the Lake District environment and of Herdwick sheep. She was instrumental in the formation of the National Trust handing over much of her estate to the Trust.

The exhibition showed how she incorporated local scenes into the illustrations of her books. Displays focused her "corner of the Lake District" showing an illustration from her books alongside a photo from the past and a present day photo.

From Hawkshead we drove to the Claife Viewing Station by the Windermere Ferry for coffee and scone and to learn about the Viewing Station as a prelude to a walk alongside Windermere then up over Claife Heights back to Near Sawrey where we posted a card to our grand daughter in the box used by Peter Rabbit.
