Murky Day in Edinburgh

Continuing the three week long celebration of my birthday we went down to Edinburgh this weekend. On arrival in the city it was extremely murky, the tops of the buildings and St Giles Cathedral were disappearing into the haze.

Luckily we were heading underground with a visit to Mary King's Close, a part of the city that was buried when the Exchange was built. By the time we emerged back ups to street level the haze had lifted somewhat, and the buildings reappeared from the mist.

The view here looks over Waverly Station to the Balmoral Hotel, once one of the luxurious railway hotels, built in 1902.

The day concluded with dinner at an Italian restaurant near our hotel in the new town.
