Diary of an Edinburgher

End of Festival Fireworks. Tonight.

A very lazy morning reading papers and watching AM on the iPad in bed. Actually, it was more more dozing than watching. Then popped out to Homebase to buy gloss paint to repaint the rest of the shower room. Had a wee drive up Calton Hill, but no swarms of Japanese teenagers today. They must have been swarming elsewhere.

Yes, I intend to do some painting next week. No, not portraits or landscapes, but walls and skirting boards and door frames. I know once you start on one bit, you have to keep going, as it shows up all the other bits needing done. I quite like painting, but I am prone to accidents with pots of paint. I once fell off a ladder with a whole pot of paint. Fortunately it was outside.

Had a walk round town via the Grassmarket - it's great to see everyone out enjoying the sun. And look - it's the Frozen Yoghurt shop again!

Off to the Fireworks tonight. I'm not going to risk taking some night time shots for my blip, though, after my last attempt at night time shots. And we have got the right day. One year we famously took our picnic chairs, blankets, bottle of wine, cheese and crackers down to the Meadows to watch the fireworks. We've done that a few years and there's usually a wee crowd, and someone always has the radio with the music broadcast.

However, on this particular night, we were perched in the middle of the Meadows, facing the castle, having our picnic and vaguely wondering why nobody else was there. It was a bit chilly, so we just thought the no-showers were wimps.

People walked past us without a glance, although thinking about it afterwards they MUST have known what we thought was going to happen, and thought we were idiots. It came the time it was supposed to start, and I declared there must a slight technical hold up. It wasn't until about half an hour after the supposed start time that we both began to wonder... er, have we got the right date?

No, it wasn't. It's always on Sunday night, not a Saturday night.

But I know it's tonight.

For sure.
