Life through the lens...

Penlee House

Penlee House Gallery and Museum , in Penzance, is celebrating 20 of collecting with an exhibition entitled :
' A casket of Pearls'.

First stop this morning was a visit to the farmers market, where I queued for 15 mins. to buy some apple raisin and cinnamon faccacia.
Hope it tastes as good as it looks and smells.
The one I have had before, which was more savoury, was sold out by the time I reached the front of the queue.
Then bought some local lamb chops reared on a farm in the next village.
Will have them tomorrow as we are dining out this evening.

Next a walk round the town. We love exploring the alley ways and side streets. Trying to imagine what it would have been like in the 1800's when my grandfather and great grandfather lived here, and also generations before them.

Then a walk through the gardens to Penlee House.
The exhibition was a delight. All the paintings were by artists who had painted down here.
Many from the Newlyn School.

In the photo you can see Mr C looking at a painting of a lady who reminded us of one of mum's friends.

The large painting on the other wall is by Samuel John Lamorna Birch.
' In our old world valley'. 1921.
A lovely painting of the valley we walked through yesterday. Looks much more grown over now.

My favourite painting was entitled:
' The Sunny South'. by Walter Langley. Painted in 1885.
It shows a gardener digging on a hillside, beside a flowering fruit tree, and the village and sea in the background.
( couldn't sneak a photo of this as there were stewards sat right by it)

Just need that sun to return and it will be perfect!

As it is Flower Friday the extra is of a beautiful camellia in one of the gardens.
