Venford Falls

I met up with Michael (mydartmoorwalks) this morning. We had met previously back in 2013 when we found ourself in the same location when I was doing a workshop in the Lake District with John Gravett. Since then we failed to meet on one occasion and just missed each other a couple of days ago when we blipped the same tor. It was good have a good old chinwag.

Michael had kindly agreed to take me to the hidden waterfall on the Venford Brook, not far from the reservoir. It's a bit of difficult place to get to and certainly not safe to go alone. One slip and your bleached bones would probably not be discovered until another photographer went that way. It is a beautiful location and once down there it's necessary to wade into the stream to get beyond a fallen tree. A wide angle lens then gets you a great view. I'm actually much closer to the falls than it appears and I had to be aware of the water splashing on the filters at the front of the camera (2 stop ND, 0.9 medium grad and polarizer).

After that it was just a case of getting back up the bank and then back up the valley side. It was lovely morning and a very interesting day in great company. Thank you very much indeed, Michael.

There are a few more here if you'd like to see them.
