Buddha after Buddha.

Today we were all up bright and early with jet-lag. The hotel offered a wonderful buffet breakfast at which I had six courses...yes six.

We ventured out into the big city once again but this time in torrential rain. We had our hearts set on visiting Lantau Island and in particular going up the mountain to see the "big" Buddha aka Tian Tan Buddha.

We set off in the general direction for the ferry to take us to the island on the basis if the weather didn't pick up we wouldn't go up the mountain as there would be no view. I really wanted to go on the cable car to the top but unfortunately it is down for maintenance.

As we crossed the water the weather did in fact brighten up so we were all up for going to the top of the mountain. We used our travel passes once again and were amazed how cheap the public transport is over here, we had to go by bus but this turned out to be an exciting and thrilling ride in it's self. When we got to Ngong Ping we went straight up towards the Buddha, I think it was 268 steps which went almost vertically up to the base of the huge Buddha that sits nicely in the green mountainous area.

We spent a nice time wondering around up there above some of the clouds that were rolling in. After we got ourselves down we headed for the temple of a thousand Buddha's, this temple is strictly for praying Buddhists and tourists can only look in and not cross the threshold, also no photographs again.

This blip entry is for RaspberryJefe who I'm sure will appreciate the body art also SunnySide will probably enjoy it too.

After spending some time appreciating the surrounding temple and architecture we headed back down the mountain and towards the mainland. We stopped for lunch in Wah Chai district where I had the best beef noodle soup I've ever tasted and boy did it pack a punch of heat.

After lunch instead of catching the tube or bus back to the hotel, Claire and I decided to walk through Kowloon park en route to our dwellings, we were glad we did as it felt like a little central park full of wildlife in particular lots of flamingos.

A quick pitstop back at the hotel for a shower and a hour rest before heading out for dinner. More authentic chinese food consumed in the Majesty Restaurant.

After dinner we walked the streets and caught the tube to the ladies market which made Claire's day spending money on bowls, handbags and other tat.
