Dumbarton Buildings - The Municipal Building

Another significant 'Shire building for me.

I got married here - special memories. It also houses the local district court (no memories of that, thank goodness) and has been used as a council chamber.

Like Overtoun House, the Dumbarton Municipal Buildings is modelled on what is known as the Scots Baronial style.

In the grounds, in the centre and further to the right in this shot - I couldn't get them all in as my angles were all wrong - are the 'McFarlan's Hurdles', three Burmese canons presented to the town on the building's opening in 1904.

Currently the whole building is undergoing major exterior renovations and when they are complete, I will grab a few more shots.

It's a magnificent looking place and the inside is quite grand.

Stephen Conroy, Helenburgh's famous portrait artist has a few works from his collection on display there.

A fitting Blip for number 500!
