Mono Monday - Community

An interesting theme for today, the fifth birthday of the village burial ground. #MM165 is themed "Community", and it's worth breaking that word down to examine what it really is. Community - Common Unity: a coming together as one. I suspect we don't do that as much now as once we did, that the post-eighties focus on self interest over the common good is reflected as much in an insular lifestyle as it is in privatised infrastructure {/politics}. Still, we all have one thing in common...

Charfield Burial Ground opened spring equinox 2012, and five years on it's a beautiful, peaceful place overlooking the Cotswold Escarpment and the rising Sun. Most of it is becoming, slowly, a wildflower reserve which will fill with bees and butterflies and other flitting folk as we fill in the remaining grassed area you see here. Eventually, we'll move into the wildflower area and then en-wild this space too. But long after my time, I hope.

I don't think you can have a proper community unless it be a place where you can by choice be born, and grow, live and love and then die. In building the burial ground when all other options were closed bar exporting of our dead folk out of the area, I think we restored a sense of community. At least, in part. And for that, I wish it a happy 5th birthday, with extra wildflower seed cake.
