COMMUNITY CENTRE

Even though I did blip part of the Community Centre last Monday I decided on a full view for Mono Monday today as the theme is " Community". Thanks to Skeena for hosting the challenge.

The building is certainly a big part of the community in my village.  Various activities take place there ..........
Pre-school Group, Workers Education Association, Art Appreciation, Art Group, Craft Group, Townswomen’s Guild, Local History Group, Floral Art Group, Women’s Institute, Lunch Club, Practical Art, Tai Chi, Meditation Class, Walking Group,  Wednesday Lunch Club, Ladies Club,History Class, Toddler Group, Thursday Club, Spiritualist Church, Sugar Craft, Hermitage Garden Group, Toddlers Group, Bridge Club, Photographic Club, Children’s Dance Class, Sugar Craft, Dance Club, Walking Group,Weight Watchers, Womens  Institute,Yoga and Zumba. Also the over 50's Fitness Class which I attend on a Monday afternoon.

The building dates from 1900 and in 1910 it became the Axwell Park Miners’ Institute. It  provided leisure activities for the miners such as a games room with billiard tables.  In 1913 an extension was built to house a library and reading room. The pit closed in 1953 and the building became Whickham Community Centre.

The weather has been really sunny today but there was a strong wind and it was quite chilly.
