Rites of Spring

Come dancing, said my soul.

Go out and celebrate among the flowers.

Let us welcome the spring!

But the yard was covered in snow. It was cold.

There was not a single bloom to be found.

But my soul would not be quenched.

Go dancing, it said, again. And so I did.

I painted my toenails purple, the color of joy.

I covered the yard in flowers.

I made my own garden.

And I danced in the snow.

The soundtrack: Tracy Chapman, All That You Have Is Your Soul.
