One year old

Mr H's little sister had her first birthday today. At a gathering which reflected the cross cultural marriage of his father and his sister's mother, Korean tradition informed guests that, rather than bring gifts, we could place a small item on a table. The point of the item was that it could symbolise the child's future path in life. The child is encouraged to choose one of the items. The wee girl chose a stone placed there by J, as a symbol to suggest an interest in geology.

The decorations were based on The Very Hungry Caterpillar", as was the food; the menu consisted of the foods which the VH caterpillar ate. Including lollipops for the boys, and the couple of slightly older young persons also present.

My photo was taken immediately after Mr H had given his little sister a soft toy (resembling the New Zealand Kea, a cheeky alpine parrot) watched by their father and by Young L.
