Gitama's World

There Are Some Folk....

...Who Did it Tough in the Floods.

Cyclone Debbie has a lot to answer for.
After doing a bit of a tour of the area (the parts we could get to) we saw first hand the damage and devastation caused by the massive amount of water that has flowed through the town.

We feel lucky and blessed that we live on a hill (like ..... all those others who live up higher) because there are many who have not been so lucky......I was touched by  the image of this man standing on his deck looking down at the water his wrecked boat and car (which you cannot see in this)...his house surrounded by river....which does not look so menacing with the sun out and the clouds innocently puffing their way across the sky....last night however must of been absolutely terrifying especially as the water was just 10cm away from the top of the wall....if it had rained a bit more there would be no town left....
........I wont go on about the ramifications of the river breaching the wall.

There were two old people who were trapped on their roof for 7 hours....its not just about braving the weather and waiting for help....the snakes....rats.....toads and all the other creepy crawlies are looking for a dry haven too....the snakes are on the move...big time now.

Another story is a horse story ...he floated several klms from his home and ended up floating into a house's doorway exhausted...a couple of guys held his head up for hours resting it on a boogie board.

Apparently we cannot have a shower and we have to boil all our water now (good job we have a good filter) the shops are running out of supplies...I think its going to take some time to clean up the town after this chaos and apparently as I type this I hear that the deluge isn't over yet.

My thoughts are with those that wern't so lucky....even so I believe that the casualties are minimal so far...that is the most important.
