Wanderings & Witterings

Foreshore

A walk with a bit of a difference today. It started with a train ride on the Bo'ness & Kinneil Steam Railway up to Birkhill, followed by a walk back to Bo'ness. It was a recce for a walk I am due to lead next week.

It's also a walk with a fair bit of history and variety thrown in. From the railway station at Birkhill the walk goes eastwards to Upper Kinneil and then a left turn takes one on the downhill road towards the Kinneil Estate. Through the parkland, eastwards again, past the site of a Roman fortlet and the ruins of Kinneil Church and Kinneil House before another downhill stretch takes one onto the Bo'ness Foreshore path alongside the River Forth.

After passing Bo'ness Harbour the path affords good views towards the Forth Bridges (pictured). At this point our planned route for next week takes a right turn and leads back towards Bo'ness and our post-ramble coffee. Just had to check that too, of course!

Seems a straightforward-enough walk and I'm looking forward to doing it 'for real' next week, Hope the weather is as kind as it was today.
