Kingsgate Castle

We went for a walk today from the lighthouse where we are staying (our third lighthouse break in less than two years) into the centre of Broadstairs.  Brilliant clear blue skies and reasonably warm weather - together with typical English seaside entertainments, have drawn rather more families here than we saw yesterday in Tankerton Bay (but the sea breeze still had quite a chilly bite).

Later this afternoon, we took a walk in the other direction to investigate Kingsgate Bay.  As I suspected, the sun was in the wrong direction for the photograph I really wanted, so I may have to return there tomorrow morning.  However, we found ourselves right next to the pub, so felt obliged to drop in and give them our custom.  From their terrace we had this lovely view of Kingsgate Castle bathed in the evening sun.  The castle (according to Wikipedia) was built in the 1760s as the stable block of a nearby country residence.  That is some stable block!

The building has now been converted into residential apartments.  There are several large buildings around here which have been similarly converted, as well as some new builds - including very large, fine detached houses.
