Lighthouse

For most of today the sky was clear blue, with no trace of a cloud.  Not surprisingly, the beaches were busy with families enjoying the lovely weather and taking the opportunity for a day trip to the coast.

Tonight is our last staying in North Foreland Lighthouse cottage in Broadstairs.  Quoting from the information leaflet left in the cottage, this lighthouse marks the north east point of the Isle of Thanet in Kent. It is an important light, providing a waypoint for vessels entering or leaving the Thames, for those in the north/south passage and for vessels coming into Ramsgate.  A red sector is shown over the Margate Roads as part of the mix of aids to navigation guiding shipping in the approaches to the Thames.

North Foreland was the last lighthouse in the UK to be automated - on 26th November 1998.

Tonight the light is competing with the almost full moon.

Best seen large on black.
