Polesworth Abbey Gatehouse

I was working in Derby today and again I had the car, enabling me to take a detour on my way home. I stopped in Polesworth in North Warwickshire and took this photo of the abbey gatehouse.

The abbey was actually a Benedictine nunnery founded in the 9th century. Following the Dissolution of the Monasteries it was granted to Francis Goodere who dismantled many of the buildings to provide stone for his manor house. All that remains is the abbey church and this gatehouse.

It is Grade I listed and a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
