Bricks Britannia for Legodude

Spent the day on the Kent and East Sussex Railway helping out at the Bricks Britannia event which is running throughout April. Bricks Britannia tells the story of the history of Britain from the Iron Age to the modern day through models built from Lego.

I had considerable difficulty fitting together three images to give a flavour of the models. Obviously, the Flying Scotsman was the focal point - an 8 metre model built entirely from the bricks was impressive and commanded much attention but the other models were very good too. We have a great affinity for Beatrix Potter, so her model with Herdwick sheep had to be included. The other model is of the Magna Carta.

My job on the day was to ride up and down the line on three trains to give out all the "Make and Take" activity kits that had been pre-purchased along with tickets to the exhibition. With the instructions on the tables children could assemble a Lego model of an engine, tender and Pullman carriage. We were able to sell kits to those who wanted one on the train. We also had to go around to replace any pieces that were missing - all the kits had been put together by hand. Chimneys seemed to be the most common brick missing!
