Snowshill Manor

We are now in Bristol for Easter and enroute today we stopped off in the Cotswolds for a sandwich and a cup of tea.

Near to the lovely village of Broadway is this National Trust property, Snowshill Manor. We were lucky as the sun was out making the sneaky cool wind bearable.
It was surprising to see so many narcissus still in flower but they made a lovely foreground for the Manor and Priest house.

The property, originally medieval, was purchased after the First World War by Charles Wade. He lived in the Priest House, the gabled building to the front which is still set out as he used it until 1956 and was open to view.
The Manor House behind was used to house his collections and occasional visitors. We didn't go in as they were timed visits and we didn't really have time to wait for one, but it would be good to go back sometime and do so as well as spend some time in the pretty town of Broadway.

The gardens were set out with the help of his friend and fellow architect Hugh Baillie Scott. The whole place is in a delightful setting above a pretty valley now all owned by the NT. The fields bordering the property were full of sheep with lambs and also some pheasants.
Lots of primroses too and everywhere is noticeably fresh and green with Hawthorn blossom appearing in the hedgerows.

Nice to be here now to spend a few days with our family.
