A Gift from a Neighbour

After the fog disappeared it turned into a lovely day. Not as good as yesterday.

A neighbour from around the corner called in with these wonderful Feijoas. This just one bowl there is another one just as full.

Each year they put bags of them on the street to give away. And we get some. John was talking to the lady a couple of weeks ago and he asked her if they had a good crop of Feijoas and she said they did but they were really small this year. It was kind of her to deliver us some.

They are not very ripe yet so well give them a few days to ripen up. John likes them stewed up but I would rather have them fresh. I will make some jam as we both like it.

Feijoas (also known as pineapple guavas and guavasteen) are an exotic, divinely-flavoured fruit native to South America. Small, green and egg-shaped, the scent and flavour sometimes defy description. Pineapple, banana, mint, strawberry and guava flavours all mingle to create a taste sensation. People who don’t like the taste liken it to medicine.
