Memorial

We went to the National Memorial Arboretum near Lichfield, Staffordshire with our friends John and Jennie.  The grounds spread over 150 acres contains 50,000 trees and nearly 300 memorials to armed forces, civilian organisations and voluntary bodies who have played a part in serving their country - Wikipedia

We had lunch there first before exploring the place, it would take a full day to get round them all, some monuments and memorials being very poignant including the 'Shot at Dawn' installation (see extra), the posts representing each of the men shot, many aged 20 and younger, all of whom were pardoned eventually by the Army.

Later this evening we saw Andrew Marr at the Stratford Artshouse who is appearing as part of the current literary festival.  A very interesting and entertaining talk followed by a question and answer session.
