Wanderings & Witterings

Balquidderock

I visited Balquidderock Wood in Bannockburn a few weeks ago and noted that it was referred to locally as "Bluebell Wood". A mental note was also made to return a few weeks later in the hope of seeing said bluebells. Today was that day.

The wood is well-named! A stunning display of bluebells awaits the visitor; carpets of them, little clumps of them, around every turn. The scenery on this visit was so much different from my last walk in these woods; it was, quite simply, bluebell heaven. One would almost need a 360 degree camera to take it all in. And then there was the sound of the birds - dominated by the crows squawking loudly from their high perches among the trees.

It was a short walk from Bannockburn town centre, about a 3km round-trip, but was well worth it. Not a bad way to start the weekend!
