My Photo Journal Journey

Side Car Racing

An early start to our day.  Picked dad (88 years old) at 8am and then a 2 hour drive to Taupo for his annual sidecar ride.  He has a lovely young man, Darren, who looks after him and pays for his ticket to ride.  It costs $10 for 3 laps.  Today was the first time dad only did 2 laps but Darren called the shots and we love him for it.  The photo shows Dad and Darren at the end of the ride holding hands.  The extra is dad going around the track.  Not sure how fast they went today but was in excess of 100 km/h.  It was an amazing day.  The respect shown to dad was incredible.  He was the oldest person doing the ride!  A lovely touch was that one of his granddaughters also did the ride...same bike but a different driver.  My dad has always been a bit of a rebel and this is a good way to be a rebel in your late 80's.

Am putting this is for DS as my dad is a bit of a derelict at being 88 and wanting to and enjoying his sidecar ride
