bird island

What are those little specs on that green mangrove island? . . .
Those specs are . . . various birds roosting!
We saw woodstorks, great white egrets, cormorants, roseate spoonbills, great blue herons and I think I saw a night heron today. Check out the extra photos for close-ups.

The woodstorks have black feathers on  the edge of their wings and a funny, wrinkly neck that looks like wood! I saw a lot of juvenile woodstorks today with a softer, grey head -you can see them in the extras. The adults have a darker head and the roseate spoonbills are pink!

We also did some fishing, or tried to . . . it was a bit windy today. Threw out the anchor and cast a bit but no bites. It was still fun to go out on the water in our little 16 ft skiff and enjoy nature all around us. Good to feel the breeze on our faces and good for my soul. Sending you sunshine!
