Stooks

Mike got home just after midnight on Tuesday and Ollie is very happy to have his pack back together! So am I!

We all headed into town this morning to order some timber for another little project! Opposite the petrol station I spotted these stooks of oats. There are very few oats grown in Orkney these days, and even less cut with a traditional binder and stacked in the old way. As I approached a flock of rooks took off. They'd been feeding on the oats left amongst the stubble. I see one collective term for rooks is a clamour - which would be a much more appropriate word in the circumstances! I'd hardly stepped away when they had landed again, seeing what else they could glean.
