Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park

Monday
We have had our daughter Jen visiting for the last week from Salt Lake City. Today was her last day - her flight home was late afternoon, so we had a good part of the day still to enjoy, and she suggested going up to Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park near Hamilton. Pyramid Hill began in 1987 when Harry T. Wilks (1925-2014) purchased 40 acres of land just outside of Hamilton, Ohio. He desired to build his home there and before it was finished in 1992, he added several adjoining parcels of land. He cleared the land as he acquired it and built roads, created lakes and cleared hiking trails. By the early 1990's, Harry was receiving offers for house sites on his land, but he really appreciated the beauty of the land and nature and wanted to preserve it for future generations. He came up with the idea of combining this with his love of art and creating a public sculpture park and so he formed a non-profit foundation to which he donated the land so it could be free from private development. He began visiting sculptors and purchased several pieces to place in the newly formed park, and in the spring of 1996 Pyramid Hill held its grand opening. Today it is home to over 70 modern and contemporary sculptures by American and international artists. In 2009, the park opened the Ancient Sculpture Museum, also depicted in my collage. You can drive around the park, or rent golf carts or walk. We took a picnic, and Roger came and joined us for that, and then returned to work. It was a hot, humid day, so after lunch, Jen and I sought a brief respite from the heat, and visited the air-conditioned Ancient Sculpture Museum. We left around 3.15 pm and headed for the airport, getting her there in good time for her direct flight. We've had a lovely week, and I will try and get caught up with my back blips soon!
