Jammin' on the banks of the canal

Spentrather longer in Bath than we anticipated. Visited Sally Lunn's cafe to sample their bunns (the extra n is correct apparently). They were OK but not a patch on a good scone and expensive at £3.45 as was the coffee.

A quick trip up to the very elegant Assembly Rooms, then down to the Roman Baths. This too was not cheap but was well worth the entry fee. We were there some three hours, coming away with a real sense of understanding of what was going on there 2000 years ago. The interpretive displays were excellent, recreating life in and around the baths an temple even down to detail such as curse notes, the Roman equivalent of our prayer requests you see in churches.

It was a late lunch back on the boat then it was a short trip to Bathampton to fill the water tanks. Seemed a good place so we moored up for the evening. On the next boat were three musicians who were practicing for a gig this evening at a local pub. They were the Gypsy Jazz group and we enjoyed their rehearsal very much. The perfect choice for today's blip rather than a shot from Bath of which there were many contenders.

A short walk up on to part of the Bath Skyway walk concluded events before unsuccessful attempts to get an evening meal at either the George or Bathampton Mill. The George was too busy at 8.00pm on a Monday evening and at the other we were met, eventually, with complete indifference and expensive prices. So we came back and had a big fry up of bacon, eggs, sausage, mushroom, tomatoes and fried bread washed down with a Malbec and followed by strawberries and cream, saving ourselves a pile of cash.
