The Opening

What a perfect day for the long awaited opening of the Lido.  I was initially disappointed that they were selling tickets rather than it being a free event - in my opinion they should have opened the gates for one day to draw in the public, but it's been fantastic.  They sold tickets for two hour taster sessions, and Alan, myself and Anne had booked for the first slot 10am - 12pm.

We arrived at 9.20am and people were already queuing up the road, we joined the queue and they let us all in at 9.30 to have a look round.  They'd got synchronised swimmers who did a display with a 'swing' singer, singing live and I wanted to blip the display, but my view was blocked by the official photographers - how dare they lol!

At 10am, they opened the pool and got us all to stand on the edge of the pool, while they counted down from 10, at which point we all jumped in!  It really was great to be part of it, although it was difficult to swim as there were so many people in the water.

The only down side, is that they hadn't finished the changing block, and whilst there were toilets and communal showers, there  weren't any changing rooms!  There's still a lot of work to do, as they still need to raise £8 million to renovate the building so it'll be a few years yet before it's totally finished, but for now we can enjoy the pool and I'm sure it'll be good for Saltdean.

This afternoon we went to the Rottingdean Village Fayre, then we went to the White Horse where we had a shandy on the terrace.  It was so hot, that I decided to go and get a family sized paddling pool - it's not quite a hot tub, but a cool pool!  It's 9ft x 6ft and the perfect size to put at the side of the house, behind the Palace.  It took a while to fill it, and the water was really cold, but hopefully it'll warm up over night.  I did plan on getting a pool for when Rach comes to stay with the girls in August, and getting it now means we can try it out, which is great seeing as tomorrow is supposed to be even hotter!

Hope you're having a good weekend, I'll try and catch up with you tomorrow x
