At last, a Red Letter or Black Bear Day

In all the years we have been visiting my sister in Canada we have never seen a bear and it's become somewhat of a family joke that we never see a bear when we are in Canada. For all we know they might be mythological creatures. My sister and her husband live well out of town and bear sightings are fairly common. Most years they will see bears on their property which is a ten acre plot with lots of woodland. My brother-in-law, Roger saw a mother and two cubs just behind the barn earlier this year. Fortunately for him the mother sent her cubs scurrying up nearby trees and then did not seem to be bothered about his presence.

It's become somewhat of a family joke that we never see bears. My mother has had several close encounters with bears on her trips to Canada. Even our grandchildren managed to see one on the property when they were visiting and, of course, there was the inevitable phone call to us to tell us what they had seen. On one of our visits my sister and her husband had taken us on a trip up to Prince George and yelled out "A bear" whilst we were travelling in the car but we were looking in the wrong direction and by the time we looked round the bear had disappeared !

However, yesterday we broke our duck and had a sighting of two black bears in a field as we were travelling back to the house after a trip to Harrison Lake. I even managed to grab a quick photo of them. Well, well they do have bears to in Canada !!
