Great Get Together: More in Common

Wow, we've had such a good day which began with neighbours arriving from all directions with tables and chairs and trifles and salads and cream cakes and crisps and sausage rolls and cous cous and all manner of yumminess.

At 2pm Mick lit the barbecue and within the hour we had much feasting on Gary's fine burgers and sausages.  Children jumped in the pool and bounced on the trampoline; stories were told; memories shared; new neighbours introduced to old neighbours; friendships forged.

I listened to Jo Cox's husband Brendan on the radio this morning talking about his life with Jo and their children.  He wanted this weekend to be a fitting tribute to his wife, and thousands of folks across the country responded.  A synagogue organised an Iftar for their Muslim neighbours; people of all cultures met in Batley to listen to poems and to hear about, and understand, the importance of Ramadan, and parties were held in glorious summer sunshine in every nook and cranny of the UK.  A well needed respite from recent horrors and affirmation that we have 'More in Common.....'

Our last guests turned homewards some time after 9.30pm saying, 'Can we do it all again next week?!'

My blip is of a few of those neighbours beneath the bunting.
