Wild Baby Week - starring the Cardinals

No WBW would be complete without the cardinals who provided the entertainment while I enjoyed my tea this morning on the deck.  Mister was feeding three fledglings who all begged with their bell-like trill and much fluttering of wings.  They are staying safely in the trees still, although all three were out on an open limb long enough for me to get a few shots.  One other shot in Extra.

There are at least 3 cardinal pairs nesting on/near our property this summer and at least two of the pairs have fledged broods already this year.  In a good year, they'll try for 3 broods; although two is more common.  A week ago I saw a brown-headed cowbird fledgling following a cardinal around, begging, proof that a cowbird had left an egg in the cardinal nest.  Interesting.

Got in a quick walk/photo session this morning, in spite of horrid humidity.  Then, went for a nice visit with MIL - we sat outside in front of the home and enjoyed the fresh, albeit humid, air.  Back home in time to watch one of the tufted titmouse pairs bring their brood in for food - cuteness overload.  Hoping to blip titmice tomorrow...

Thanks for stopping by!

PS:  Garden notes:  Finally, the pink coneflowers are starting to bloom!  And, in the side garden, the first phlox is opening its buds; in the small butterfly garden some of the red bee balm is starting to open.  Liatris in the big garden is oh-so close...
