Keep Your Big Wheels Turnin'..........

...... although at the moment it does seem as if the big wheels are coming off this nation of ours.

Last week Salford's City Mayor, Paul Dennett, announced that the cladding on nine high rises at Pendleton would have the cladding removed. It was he said the right and moral thing to do. He is right.

Spruce Court, shown here, is one of the blocks. These are people's homes, residents live here who have had a lot of disruption, and now face yet more following the disaster at Grenfell Tower in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

Since 2010 national government has obsessed about deregulation, with annual "red tape challenges" to encourage further bonfires of regulation, and a strict rule that a new regulation can only be made if two existing ones are removed. Behind it all is a mindset, shared by large sections of the press with their mocking stories about "elf and safety" and made up stories about bent bananas. That mindset has not taken seriously issues which should be important.

It has led us to a pretty uncomfortable place.
