Siloso Bay, Sentosa, Singapore

Day 8

The MRT to Harbour Front, and walked the Boardwalk to Sentosa, Singapore's pleasure island.

It is like Disneyland. Music playing, lots of attractions, fun water features, and loads of eating places. The extra is outside the Aquarium.

We wandered about, exploring. Arrived at the beach area. It is quite narrow, so many ships and tankers in the distance. Huge shelters by the sands, in case of downpours.

We took the new Skywalk to Fort Siloso, from where I took this shot. Excellent interpretive displays about the guarding of the harbour over hundreds of years. We climbed down tunnels, up to gun emplacements. There is a brand new experience at the Surrender Shelter, very well done.

We learned a lot, particularly about the Japanese Occupation of Singapore from 1942-45. The Japanese came from the north across the strait at Johor, not in by sea as was anticipated. They changed the country's name to Syonan-To (Light of the South). Many were killed, the locals suffered terribly during this time.

Back over the Boardwalk, and a wander around Vivocity, Singapore's largest shopping mall. Delicious fish, chicken, and vegetables with organic rice back at the house. Over 22,000 steps today.
