So about yesterday...

During the afternoon we talked about how we are screwed if we forget the keys to the house. No one - yet - has a spare key for us. We have thought about asking couple of our friends to hold one for us. The others are not here at the moment and the other friend we haven't seen since San Juan and taking a key to a beach party didn't seem like a good idea at the time.

You see where this going?

So, we head out to meet our friends in Santa Pola to watch the Orgullo playero, the local Pride parade. When the sun is setting we realize that we have to head home soon, as both I and hubby are wearing sunglasses and we still need to see drive home. It's getting dark quick. No streetlights in many places.

We walk towards the car and we both realize that we do not have house keys with us. Neither of us. And that is the one thing that we usually before stepping outside ask another to SHOW the keys before closing the door. Not this time. Don't understand how it happened, but it did.

What to do?

Well, good for us we have a house insurance that covers cases like these. Just call them and they give you a number to call for free locksmith service. Call them. Give NIE number, passport number, the whole lot and they can't find our policy. We have the policy number but for some reason that is not good information. (Can you believe this?)

Drive home. I call a Santa Pola locksmith found in Google Maps. He only speaks Spanish, I explain him the situation and he gives me a number for on call locksmith. I call him. He only speaks Spanish, I explain him the situation he promises to be at our house in 20 minutes.

That turned out to be very Spanish 20 minutes. It was an hour. He came 11pm. The dogs were inside the house needing their evening walk. It's pitch dark outside. We're wearing our sunglasses. I can't see anything without glasses. I find it hard to walk without glasses. I lose distances. So even darker with sunglasses...

Our Siberian neighbors were outside barbecuing. So I was watching the house for the arrival of locksmith talking to our eastern neighbors and hubby was guarding the parking lot area.

It was really scary. I was afraid that the locksmith won't come. Or he won't be able to open our new security doors. Or course since we had no keys it wasn't double locked. The locksmith finally came and he was inside the house in 15 seconds. Talk about security doors.

Anyway. The whole ordeal was over and we were inside our house and dogs got their evening walk.

Amazing how one can speak Spanish when it's an emergency. I guess the adrenaline pushes the brains to act. Usually when I try to speak Spanish the words come to my mind very slowly. So it's naturally lack of practice, but trying to practice is very "painful". Last night was very different.

Our mutual language with the Siberians is Spanish with few English words, btw... Who knew that could happen.
