Wartburg

Today we visited the Wartburg where the legendary bards' contest was held, St Elisabeth of Hungary lived, Martin Luther translated the bible and the German students met to fly the German colours for the first time. Last time I visited was over thirty years ago before the unification. Today it was very busy. We got there by walking through the Dragon gorge (see extra) which is 68cm wide at the narrowest bit and returned to the Hohe Sonne along the Rennsteig which was first mentioned in 1330. All in all we walked about 16km. A great day out.
