Trident

Brian and Angela are in jail.

They lay down in front of one of the regular convoys of trucks which drive through Scotland carrying nuclear warheads to the Trident submarine base close to Glasgow.

They did it on a pedestrian crossing, where pedestrians have right of way.

Brian is 79, and a retired Latin teacher. I don't know much about Angela.

They appeared in a Justice of the Peace Court, where the roughest of rough justice gets handed down. Everyone pleads guilty. Anything else is futile.

In any event, the usual outcome is a fine. That costs less than paying a lawyer to run a trial for you.

They didn't plead guilty. The JP tried to impose a bail condition that they'd not repeat the (alleged) offence while on bail. They refused to undertake to comply. So, jail pending trial.

People are writing letters and postcards of support. Mine are ready to go on Monday.

Today's European youth activity was washed out. We were supposed to spend the day at Airth Highland Games. Steady rain in the morning and a forecast of the same all day meant Plan B was needed.

Except there wasn't one. No-one had thought we might get a wet day in July in Scotland. A quick brainstorming session produced another trip to Edinburgh to the National Museum. "Our" part of the group had 3 adults for 3 teenagers without me being there, so I gave it a miss.

We met up for dinner in the evening.

More rain on Sunday...
