The Life Of Ponty Cyclops

Nothing Compares To You

Having made myself mildly lobster colour on the first full day here it was decided that "shade bathing" was probably the order of the morning! So we found a suitable spot and sat by the pool ... it was probably the toughest decision of the day! It was then eyes down looking for a good days reading. I have brought out here the books I got signed by Mark Avery and Mike Dilger at Birdfair, and a huge pile of Fortean Times magazine, the later because I have fallen months behind on.

As I said in yesterday's blip we were going to a casino tonight. I have never set foot in one before, but it was reassuring to know that some of the people we shared our table with hadn't, and they were much older than me!
We went to see a Latin dance show. As you have probably figured by the photo in this blip, I wasn't allowed to take any photos of that part of the show. So instead you have this slightly surreal shot of the warm up artist singing a duet with Sinead O'Connor on a video screen.

It was fairly evident why I wasn't allowed to take photos when the show started; there was quite a lot of naked flesh on show. Dawn assured me there were two blokes dancing, I don't remember them!

It was a pretty decent night in all honesty. After the show we spent half an hour wandering around the casino floor ... my god what a different world some people live in. It was quite eye opening to watch people gamble away hundreds of pounds at a time in just a few minutes. They were throwing the chips on the roulette table like I used throw matchsticks down when playing cards with my dad as a kid. These weren't even the high rollers; they were hidden away in a downstairs private area. It was utterly fascinating to watch it must be said.
