If you can't beat them...

The Flying Scotsman.

Saturday means prepping the Lodge, so that was the morning and early afternoon taken up.   Having finished the Lodge by a reasonable time we decided to have an impromptu run out to see the Flying Scotsman hauling the "Hadrian".

The train was making a run up the settle to Carlisle line then across country to Newcastle before heading south again. Steam trains only run on the Carlisle to Newcastle line a very few times a year.  Also we were too late to catch it going up to Carlisle.

The result of this was head for Wetheral station.  I was very surprised at how few people were there compared to previous visits.  The shot shows the "Scotsman" entering the station perhaps not flat out but certainly not hanging about.  As there was a small crowd on the platform the engineers were, as seems to be their habit",blowing the whistle in greeting.
