The Arno River, Florence (Backblip)

Tanken from near the Ponte Vecchio and looking toward the Ponte Santa Trinita which was built in 1567, designed by Ammannati with reworkings by Michaelangelo. It was destroyed by the Nazis as they were retreating in 1944 and rebuilt using the original stone that was fished out of the Arno River. Most of the statues were also found in pieces in the river and repaired and replaced on the bridge. Rebuilding was completed in 1958. I have put a better photo of the bridge in my blipfolio.
Ponte Santa Trinata
Standing on the famous Ponte Vecchio at sunset and looking up and down the Arno was a very special experience and one of my favourite things on the trip. It was made even better by some musicans playing the most beautiful music.
PS you can just see in this shot the black spot which started appearing in my photos after the first few days - on the new compact bought especially for the trip!!
