Grapes of gravity

Packing was considerably easier than expected (I think mainly because CarbBoy left all his clothes in London) and the journey to the airport was fine.  Ludicrous hold bag deposit system at Ryanair.  I really don’t think it would be possible to design anything less efficient.  Good job we left plenty of time.  Flight was fine, despite a couple getting very upset that we’d stolen their seats (we hadn’t – they were on the other side of the aisle) and then spending the whole flight casting evil glances our way like we had somehow forged our and their boarding passes.

Chaos at Carcassonne, with two flights arriving simultaneously, and only room on the tiny baggage carousel for about six bags, meaning everything ground to a halt with no-one able to get into the (tiny) arrivals hall to get to passport control as the hall was full of people whose bags were still outside.  Took about 45 minutes to get through… If we’d only (as is usually the case) had hand luggage I would have been very grumpy about standing in the burning sun, but with a bag in the hold, I couldn’t really moan and besides, getting to home ground had a good feeling about it, so it was fine.  Leaving the airport with swallows swooping low over vines on one side of the car and cheery sunflowers on the other felt like a fine welcome home!

I couldn’t remember whether I’d thought to stock something in the freezer for dinner (I had) so we went straight to the supermarket, via a quick stop to mop up CarbBoy’s car-sickness…  And of course to try and find some other clothes for him to wear until we got home (since he had left all his behind in London, he only had the nice suit we took for the funeral to get changed into – I think when we got home his pals were impressed by his classy travel wear, but possibly less so by the aroma of vomit around him).

Once home, a quick garden inspection and it turns out that our grapevine was insufficiently supported!  There's a job for tomorrow...

Dinner and an early night, with some sadness that we were rabbit-less for the night.
