The Chinese Terra Cotta Warriors

OK…no more whining about big city traffic and noise —it does have so many cultural advantages.   today H and I went to the exhibit of those Chinese Warriors buried in the tomb of China’s first emperor, Qin dynasty,  in 221 BCE and just unearthed in 1974 from a farmer’s field.   2000 of the 8000 figures have been excavated,, and 10 of those were here that we could see all around, up and personal… no glass.  worth the visit.    They look grey to me,  not terra cotta, and their color had flaked off due to the lacguer that was put on before the mineral paints and oxidized  when excavated, so came off with the color intact.    There were replicas showing how they were found with brightly colored paint.    The heads were sculpted separately so all have different expressionas.   This is a charioteer… against a backdrop of one of the chambers, partly excavated.      I’ll never get to China to see these but was glad to have this view of this magnificent artistic endeavor.

A couple extra, archers and horse and calvary
