Kiftsgate

We met Maureen and Ian at Hidcote for lunch then walked back down the road to Kiftsgate Court Gardens, a privately run series of interconnecting gardens created by three generations of women gardeners. I don't think I've ever been there before though Ann says we came with friends twenty of so years ago.

Luckily the rain had eased and we had a good explore of the multilevel gardens, influenced by nearby Hidcote Manor Gardens but with some contemporary twists.

The photo is The Avenue, a new part of the gardens, one end a horseshoe shape using the soil excavated from the nearby water  garden.  The Avenue is lined by tulip trees and leads to a sculpture designed and made by Peter Moorhouse.  Shaped in a leaf form in stainless steel with the veins replaced by an Islamic pattern taken from the Huand Hatun mosque in Kayseri, Turkey (information taken from a Kiftsgate leaflet). The potted plants by the chevron are olive trees.

The extra shows a close-up of the sculpture.
