Kayaking among the American lotus beds

Sunday
A good service at church this morning, with a good message and music, then as it was another gorgeous day, we came home, packed up a picnic, and headed up to Cowan Lake State Park. Cowan Lake is a low horse-power lake, so it is popular with sailing boats and kayaks. We had our picnic right at the water's edge, watching the swallows skim and scoop over the surface of the water. Then we rented a double kayak, and went out for a little under two hours, focusing especially on the American lotus beds which occupy some of the shallow inlets of the lake, but also enjoying the sight of cormorants perched in trees and flying overhead, the beautiful fluffy white clouds reflected in the water and watching the sailing boats desperately trying to catch enough wind to move! Then we returned to dry ground, and did a couple of the short hiking trails, trying to get some shots of the lotus beds from the land. Altogether a great day!
