Whale ahoy

Our last day in Iceland and a full day in Reykjavik. We headed out for our whale watching trip with a company who thoughtfully provided flotation suits (and offered seasickness tablets -declined). They were very warm and cosy, just what we needed as we headed out to the North Atlantic. The company we chose for its strong environmental message and responsible attitude to such trips. The creatures are wild and so we take it by chance if we see them. Or not as today's case. A brief glimpse of a Minke whale dorsal fin a couple of times and a pod of White-beaked dolphins along side was our lot. But the trip was informative and enjoyable. We relaxed watching the various seabirds including groups of puffins going out to sea for the winter and agreed with the mantra " Meet us, don't Eat us" and avowed to steer clear of restaurants selling minke or puffin. After a really delicious lunch in town of ' heartful vegetable soup' we hit the shops taking advantage of the tax free tourist cost to buy some mementoes of Iceland . A lovely last day .
