Smoky Sunrise

It is a perfect example of the unusual weather we are having that on the day of the eclipse it was uncharacteristically cold and cloudy. There was never a chance of getting a glimpse of the shadow of the moon passing over the sun. We had our own solar event of sorts when the shadow of the smoke of fires burning all over California and Oregon covered the sun as it rose above Hood Mountain. The air quality is terrible and the marine breezes are missing in action as a large high pressure system is parked over Northern California.

When I heard that the despicible US president was considering  ending DACA, the act which  protects children and young people from deportation, I predicted that he would,  just because  he can. These children were brought to this country by their parents, and this is the only home most of them have ever known. There is no reason for rescinding the DACA other than mean spirited, self indulgent racism. People from Silicon Valley, American colleges and universities and other organiztions, where many dreamers are employed, have appealed to the president's better side regarding his decision, and today he proved that he doesn't have one, by sending the Attorney General out to announce that he was rescinding DACA. (Perhaps that is because he had publicly assured the beneficiaries of the act in the past that they "have nothing to worry about...")

There will be a rally tomorrow to protest this decision. I plan to be there.
